o   An hour away south of Miami, is the wildest place to kayak that is the Everglades National Park. In it you will find:

  • Bear Lake Canoe Trail: an out-and-back paddle along a straight man-made historic waterway through thick mangroves. We’ve done this one and enjoyed the mangrove tunnels and wildlife.
  • Hell’s Bay Canoe Trail: Famously: “Hell to get into and hell to get out of.” Through mangrove creeks and ponds.
  • Noble Hammock: a 1.9 mile loop through a maze of mangrove tunnels and small ponds.
  • Florida Keys 

o   Stated as a heaven for kayaking in South Florida. There are unlimited places to put in your kayak and paddle through spectacular scenery in the Keys.

  • A ghost town with ruins overgrown by jungle and great snorkeling along its rocky shore, Indian Key Historic State Park is an outstanding kayak destination.
  • Famous for its snorkeling, John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park also offers 2.5 miles of mangrove trails through the park.
  • Home to the endangered Key Deer, Big Pine Key / No Name Key is also a popular spot to kayak. You will find variety of animals when kayaking through here. There are plenty of birds, Key Deer and any number of creatures in the water, from crabs to rays.

Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institution

  • Also commonly referred to as HBOI or HBOI at FAU, Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institution is a non-profit oceanographic institution operated by Florida Atlantic University in Fort Pierce, Florida, USA. Similar to the Kennedy Space Center, Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institution is a tourist destination for its educational and science museums.

Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuge

  • Part of the United States National Wildlife Refuge System, located along a twenty mile (30 km) section of coastline from Melbourne Beach to Wabasso Beach, Florida along State Road A1A is Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuge. The refuge provides nesting habitats for approximately one-fourth of all sea turtles nesting in the United States. The refuge also provides habitat for several other threatened and endangered species.

McLarty Treasure Museum

  • Occupying part of the former site of the Survivors’ and Salvagers’ Camp – 1715 Fleet, and is part of Sebastian Inlet State Park, McLarty Treasure Museum is located at 13180 North A1A on Orchid Island, north of Windsor and Vero Beach, Florida. It houses exhibits on the history of the 1715 Spanish treasure fleet.

Mel Fisher Treasure Museum

  • In another part of Florida, Mel Fisher Treasure Museum houses exhibits on archaeology and the 1715 Spanish treasure fleet. It is located at 1322 U.S. Highway 1, Sebastian, Florida. The museum included a working conservation laboratory used to preserve artifacts recovered from underwater with an observation window for viewing conservation work from inside the museum.

Laura Riding Jackson Home

  • Born January 16, 1901, Laura Riding Jackson, an American poet, critic, novelist, essayist and short story writer, lived in this house until her death on September 2, 1991 making this place of value for tourists.

  • The Manatee Observation and Education Center is a waterfront environmental education and wildlife viewing center located on Florida’s east coast in beautiful downtown Fort Pierce. The Center lies just west of the Atlantic Ocean and overlooks the nationally recognized Indian River Lagoon, a saltwater estuary, and Moore’s Creek, a freshwater tributary and historical resting spot for the Florida manatee.

  • Located at 3001 River Park Drive, Vero Beach, Florida, Vero Beach Museum of Art houses regional, state and national art exhibits and includes a sculpture garden. Vero Beach Museum of Art includes art exhibitions, a sculpture garden, studio art and humanities classes, exhibition tours, performances, a museum store, film studies, an art research library, workshops and seminars, children and youth events, and community cultural celebrations.

o   Palm Beach County

  • Considered by some as the best in south Florida, kayaking in this region is best experienced at the Loxahatchee River. The cypress trees and lush ferns and air plants create a magical and peaceful environment. The three-hour highly scenic trip is a shady, jungly trail along a narrow, twisting river.
  • Taking you through wet prairies, sawgrass marshes and tree islands, you are probably kayaking on a trail at the Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge.
  • Not straying far from the civilization, kayaking at John D. MacArthur Beach State Park in North Palm Beach shows a spectacular scenery and bird-life.
  • In another destination in the MacArthur Park area is kayaking to Peanut Island. Peanut Island has a lot to offer — snorkeling, the beaches and the history, which includes the Kennedy Bunker.

o   Broward County

  • Located in John Lloyd State Park in Dania Beach, Broward’s best and most natural kayak trail is Whiskey Creek.
  • An urban waterway that circling Wilton Manors, Middle River in Fort Lauderdale is one of Fort Lauderdale’s most popular kayak outings. It’s largely a view of people’s pools and landscaping, with an occasional heron, manatee or iguana sighting.
  • Running through the heart of the city is Fort Lauderdale’s most historic river is the, New River. The canals along Las Olas Boulevard and on the south side of the New River, along Rio Vista and the Tarpon River, offer views of mansions, yachts and lush landscaping.
  • Offering extensive, peaceful mangrove areas for paddling is a Broward County park named West Lake. Being the largest remaining mangrove ecosystem in the 85-mile urbanized coast from Miami Beach to West Palm Beach, West Lake attracts lots of bird life.

  • In the middle of the city at Oleta River State Park in North Miami, you will find a good kayak trail. An outfitter makes it easy for visitors to get on the water.
  • Not requiring a trail at all similar to kayaking off the beach, you will find similar experience in Biscayne Bay. There are many appealing places to park and launch a kayak along the Rickenbacker Causeway leading to Key Biscayne. This kayak trip can involve visiting an active bird rookery or circling Chicken Key.

  • Located specifically at 350 U.S. Highway 1, Vero Beach, Florida, McKee Botanical Garden is a non-profit, subtropical botanical garden in Vero Beach, Florida. Enjoy a walk through this garden full of flowers and ponds.

Riverside Theatre
