Oftentimes, we view travelling as very centered on us. That the reason why we visit other places is to while away our time and enjoy; and sometimes we expect too much from the place that we are visiting, that we take many things for granted in the course of our travel. We become so engrossed in our time when travelling that we forget to become responsible with what we do.
It cannot be avoided that we leave marks or trash to places that should be green and clean all the time. And instead of footprints, we leave vandals and marks just so we can etch a mark that at some point in our life we have visited such place. In fact, one news about a traveler from China vandalizing on the pyramids of Egypt caught the attention of the world.
It is in such instance, that the world and the entire people became open minded as to the ‘negative’ aspect of travelling. That when one person travels, the person tends to be too drunk in finding enjoyment in other places. Because of such problem, the emergence of the Green Travel idea has sprouted in many parts of the world.
Green Travel means that we practice being responsible in our visit to other places that we pay attention to the economic, socio- cultural and very importantly, environmental sustainability. The soul of the movement is making sure that we put the environment at the core of what we do while on foreign lands.
It is always a must for us to observe Green Travel ideas. We only live in one world, and the beauty of the world can be sustained if we become very particular with our actions. The simple littering of candy wrappers could mean devastation to the herd of sheep if it is eaten. If we throw away our plastic at sea, could mean harm to aquatic life.
That whatever action we do, there is a corresponding effect it has to the environment. What we want to bear in mind is to get fun and enjoyment and leave only memories in the places that we are vesting; and not spoil the beauty of the place.
As what the popular adage says, “Take nothing but pictures leave nothing but footprints, kill nothing but time.” This clearly summarizes what Green Travel should always be. That we must take nothing from the places that we are going because we also want others to experience such beauty; that we should not leave our trash behind every time we move, because we don’t want to denigrate the place that we are visiting; and most importantly, we should not kill anything that comes across us.
Thus, even with our small candy wrappers could mean death if eaten by animals in the wild. This just proves that comes the right to travel is also a huge responsibility placed on our backs weightier than the heavy backpacks that we have. The responsibility to know what to do and what to expect from our travel must always be placed in our hearts.
